2024 Ambrose Championship Recap

The annual Box Hill Ambrose Championship was met with great success last Friday the 12th of April. The sold-out field of 124 golfers hit the course at 1pm to play 4-person drop out Ambrose and pursue the much sought after prize of a fully funded golf trip. However, there were multiple prizes up for grabs including golf shoes, golf bags, putters and an $1000 closest to the pin. As expected, the competition was tight with eight teams breaking nett 60! In third place with a score of nett 58.125 (hcp 5.875) was Brett Cook, Adam Waite, Blair Pepperell and Hugh Park who all took home a pair of Travis Mathew Moneymaker shoes. In second place was Mark Valenti, Peter Johnston, Adrian Giffin and Sean Rogasch with a score of nett 58 (7hcp) who received $1500 to put towards a golf trip of their choice. Nearest the Pins on the day went to Jonathon Evans (4th Hole/Golf Bag), Andrew Fernon (9th/Putter), Peter Giderson (11th/Golf Bag) and Conchita Bigley (17th/Putter). The $1000 closest to pin was won by Geoff Kay who was the only player in the field to make it inside the circle after crunching DRIVER from the tee.

The Champions of the day were Andrew Fernon, Jason Thomas, Clint Robinson, and Adam Roberts with a score of nett 54.625 (hcp 5.375) who received $4800 to go towards a golf trip of their choice.

Following presentations the players were served an excellent two-course meal which brought the day to a fitting close. The event was an overwhelming success thanks to the support of Ray White Forest Hill (member Hugh Francis) and Aussie Blackburn (member Lee Mundy) who contributed heavily to the major prizes. A special thanks to the following hole sponsors who contributed to the closest to the pin prizes, Core Cartel, Vermont Physiotherapy, Drainspect Plumbing and Mutual Insurance brokers. Lastly, many thanks to Immij (member Les Jonas) who sponsored the $1000 closest to the pin.

Rest assured the Box Hill Ambrose Championship will return bigger and better than ever next year. If you’re interested in being a part of the 2025 Ambrose Championship through sponsorship, please reach out to the club via James Woite (james@boxhillgolfclub.com.au).

Box Hill Golf Club Wine

By popular demand, our special release Box Hill wine is now available so you can re-stock your cellar with top-quality wine at half the retail price.

Sale of the wine helps raise funds for the Box Hill Pro-Am, which has done so much to improve our course with new pathways and re-building of a number of tees.

There are two varieties this year - the popular Luna Shiraz 2022 vintage from Chalk Hill winery in McLaren Vale, plus a refreshing Pinot Grigio from the award-winning De Bortoli winery.

Both wines are excellent value at just $140 per dozen, which is approximately half what you will pay from major retailers.
